A humorous take on the talent show format a la ‘viva variety’ and ‘The Gong Show’ This studio show Presented By Max Somerset as live from Fountain studios (x factor/Britain’s got talent) sees the Boy band wannabees battle it out against the side show oddities. Max gets up to his usual antics as a panel of celebrity judges gong off the bad acts and the audience boo and cheer and throw large objects. Nicholas the fire breathing roller skating dwarf escorts all the good acts to variety heaven and Daisy the strong man carries off all the bad acts to variety hell. The winner gets personally serenaded by Max who sings ‘you’re strangely talented’ as they sit on the throne. The show also involves Roxy Velvet who is the scorekeeper.
Max was primarily working from auto cue throughout the show and would occasionally break off into magic tricks with the audience or jump into the band pit to sing. The band consisted of x royal academy student friends. Max wrote the music for the show, including the theme and ‘It’s the middle of the show.’ Trevor Walker arranged them for the band.
Both the expertise of Kevin Tasker and Ross Welford were employed to help Max live on set, making sure that tricks and props were set as prescribed in the script, occasionally stuffing things in Max’s pockets while he momentarily ran off set.
Having delivered succinctly in on studio time with no mistakes and no need for re-takes; SpunGold Productions were delighted with Max’s input, and Max was delighted to have been entrusted with the position as host in the studio idiom.
For someone who had never before hosted a studio show or read an autocue, as well as juggling the music and the magic and working the studio floor with some of the best names in production from the renowned Phil Petrowski to Earl Spencer and Martin Oxley as it’s Series Producer, Max considers it a significant milestone in his career. He was also very happy to have Simon Cowell’s dressing room.
